18:00-20:00

Club meeting

The Business Club held its first meeting of the semester in the evening of 2 March 2010.
About 30 students were present.
After a welcome and overview of the program by Max, Julia introduced The Bradford Production Game (BPG), which was played later on in the evening. This is a game to demonstrate the practical application of management science. Three competing teams were put together and were given the task of making money by producing and selling booklets. Each team member was assigned a specific role, and the group had to work together closely in order to be competitive. Each transaction had to be documented. In the end each team had to take stock of how many booklets it had produced and sold. Competition was strong, and the best team only won by a narrow margin.
While for those who were not at the meeting this may sound like hard work, however, everyone participating agreed that it was a lot of fun and really enjoyed the experience.
The evening finished off with bowling and again Club members had a great time.

Enterprise Day

The Scottish Institute for Enterprise (SIE), in cooperation with the Business Club, held the ENTERPRISE DAY on April 20, 2010 in the Atrium of the Stirling University. The purpose of Enterprise Day was to inform students about the various stages of starting a business, to encourage them to become entrepreneurs, and to offer assistance along the way.
The Atrium was divided into three sections:
1. How to start up a business. A number of stalls were set up, where students were shown how to develop a business plan, what the legal requirements are, accountancy rules, how to develop a business identity including name, business cards, web site etc. There was a business incubator provided by the Scottish Institute of Enterprise.
2. General Information. This section was targeted to interested students who want to collect information, but did not yet know what kind of business they might want to set up. There were representatives from organizations such as the Scottish Institute for Enterprise, Business Gateway, Women into Business and the Stirling University Business Club.
3. Fun and promotional material. Having gone through all other stages, students received little gifts as well as a toolkit with promotional material. There was also a chocolate fountain and a "grab-a-grand" machine where one could either win a cash price or a meeting with an entrepreneur.
